Sam visits St Mary's Primary School

9th Oct 2024

There was an air of excitement around Maghery this morning as Sam Maguire made it's way to St Mary's PS.

It was a truly momentous, historical and joyous occasion for our school and playgroup. This was the first time ever that our school was able to welcome Maghery players from our club Sean Mc Dermott's and very importantly, past pupils of our school, who achieved the highest honour in Gaelic football, winning the All-Ireland.

We welcomed Ciaran, whom we have watched on many occasions playing for Maghery and Armagh, and who has been a regular visitor passing on his well-valued skills and knowledge to our pupils.

We also paid tribute to Ben, who could not join us today; and recognised his achievement in securing the Sam Maguire for Armagh.

Recognition was given to the captain Aidan, whereby it was acknowledged that he was one of few men who has captained an All-Ireland winning team. You are an inspiration to everyone in our school and your legacy will go down in the history books for many years to come.

Our children were busy preparing for this visit and provided amazing artwork, poetry and music for our special visitors as an acknowledgment for all they have achieved.

A special thanks goes to all the staff for their hard work and to the parents who provided some celebratory photos to help make the day special. Also a special word of thanks to Liam Mc Corry for facilitating this special visit.

The children were also rewarded with some treats by the local Sean Mc Dermott's football club.

A truly fun-filled day that was enjoyed by all of the community and we look forward to next year. Bring back Sam! Thanks to all who came out to support us.

Our professional photographs will be added soon. Thank you to Cahir Forker for taking them.
