Primary 6&7 begin their Bio-diversity project

23rd Sep 2024
Today Primary 6&7 began their work on this project with Chris and Rosie from ABC. The children learnt about the importance of the bog absorbing carbon dioxide. In addition the concerns about less and less insects in our environment were raised leading to ways we as a class can help to increase the level of wildlife along our shores. The children took the next step of their project to the area below the graveyard, which purposely was not cut for this intention. This allowed children to identify eight wildflowers, Bird's foot Trefoil, Forget Me Not, Self Heal, Benweed/Ragwort, Buttercup, Marsh Woundwort, Thistle and Purple-Loosestrife which are good for wildlife and the environment and those that should not be in Maghery Country Park, the Himalayan balsam which is invasive, and the Trifid-bur Marigold. I am sure if you took our primary 6&7 children for a walk in that area, they would be more than happy to inform you of all the activity. A great informative day. Thank you Chris and Rosie.
